Kenya Airways Expands Fleet with Boeing 737-800 Addition

Kenya Airways (KQ) has strengthened its fleet with the addition of a Boeing 737-800, increasing its total number of aircraft to 35. The new plane, which has a capacity of 170 seats, is part of the airline’s ongoing fleet expansion strategy aimed at increasing capacity, enhancing operational efficiency, and meeting the growing demand for air travel.
The aircraft, acquired from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), will immediately boost KQ’s seat availability, providing travelers with more flexibility and options.
Speaking at the event,Kenya Airways Group Managing Director & CEO, Allan Kilavuka, emphasized that the latest acquisition underscores the airline’s commitment to its long-term growth strategy and ongoing turnaround plan, Project Kifaru 2.
“The addition of this B737-800 marks a pivotal moment in our fleet expansion journey. It will increase our seat capacity and is a demonstration of our ability to adapt and grow in a challenging operating environment, even as the global aviation industry faces challenges in aircraft availability,”he said.
Additionally ,he noted that these efforts are part of Kenya Airways’ broader strategy to enhance its network, improve connectivity, and deliver exceptional service to its guests.
The arrival of the new aircraft comes at a crucial time as Kenya Airways actively seeks to expand its fleet through strategic partnerships with leading aircraft manufacturers and lessors.
The airline is currently engaged in advanced negotiations to secure additional aircraft, with a focus on both narrow and wide-body models designed for greater efficiency and capacity.
