WITIA to Host Inaugural Women in STEM Africa Summit in Nairobi
Women in Technology and Innovation Africa (WITIA) has announced the inaugural Women in STEM Africa Summit, scheduled for July 8 to 10, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The landmark event will run concurrently with the Africa Technology Show and the 10th edition of China Trade Week Kenya, creating a dynamic intersection of innovation, trade, and global engagement.
Held under the theme Borderless Innovation: Pioneering Global Technology Solutions for Africa’s Challenges, the summit is designed to elevate women’s participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) across the continent. Organizers aim to empower, connect, and celebrate women driving technological transformation in Africa.
WITIA Co-founder and CEO Joyce Muchiri described the summit as a catalyst for change. “This is more than just a conference,It’s a space to celebrate African women’s achievements in science and technology, and to reimagine a future where women lead innovation, sustainability, and global problem-solving.”she said.
WITIA board member Dr. Bella Namango emphasized the summit’s broader vision: “Africa’s digital future must be built on equity. This summit is a bold step toward ensuring women are not only included in innovation they’re leading it.”
The summit seeks to foster cross-border collaboration, support African-led innovations, strengthen research-to-policy linkages, and attract investment into Africa’s innovation ecosystem. Expected outcomes include strategic partnerships, concrete policy proposals, and increased global visibility for African women in STEM.
More than 500 delegates from over 20 African countries are expected to attend, including policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, diplomats, investors, and students. The three-day program features keynote speeches, ministerial dialogues, and panel discussions involving key government institutions such as Kenya’s Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, Konza Technopolis, and the TVET Authority.
Over 30 thought leaders will speak on critical topics ranging from fintech and cybersecurity to green engineering and artificial intelligence. Notable speakers include Radhika Bhachu of Ndovu, cybersecurity experts Dr. Bright Gameli and Pharace Moraa Nyang’au, AI strategist Grace Murugi, and sustainability advocate Ruby Alcantara.
A central feature of the event will be the STEM Exhibition Pavilion, showcasing African-made technologies and research innovations. Additionally, an innovation challenge will spotlight youth-led startups and social enterprises, offering them exposure to investors and partners. B2B networking forums and structured collaboration sessions will also promote regional and international linkages.
