Kenya Airways Rolls Out NDC Content on Amadeus Travel Platform, Boosting Digital Retailing Capabilities
Kenya Airways (KQ) has officially launched the distribution of its New Distribution Capability (NDC)-sourced content to travel agents in Kenya through the Amadeus Travel Platform, marking a significant step in the airline’s digital transformation and retail strategy.
This move follows Kenya Airways’ adoption of the Altéa NDC solution, a system designed to streamline the distribution and servicing of fares and new content across various sales channels.
The integration aims to enhance the airline’s retailing capabilities by providing greater flexibility, speed, and efficiency in the creation and delivery of travel offers.
The partnership between Altéa NDC and the Amadeus Travel Platform is expected to accelerate the airline’s ability to bring its NDC offers to market, while improving productivity for travel sellers. Amadeus-connected agents will now be among the first to access Kenya Airways’ full range of NDC content positioning the national carrier as one of the most progressive airlines in Africa when it comes to modern retailing.
NDC, a standard developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), is based on XML technology and is aimed at revolutionizing how airlines distribute their products. It gives airlines more control over pricing, offers, and customer experiences across distribution platforms.
Speaking during the launch, Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu described the development as a key milestone for the airline’s modernization efforts.
“This is a significant milestone for Kenya Airways as we continue to innovate and enhance our travel retailing capabilities,” Thairu said.
“Amadeus has been at the forefront of driving NDC adoption globally, making it a natural partner in this journey. We’re excited to provide our NDC content to their vast network of travel sellers.”
Christophe Roux, Senior Vice President, Airlines, Middle East, Turkey, and Africa at Amadeus, praised KQ for being one of the early adopters of NDC in Africa.
“Kenya Airways recognized early on the value NDC could bring to its customers. We’re proud to support their ambition to modernize and personalize the travel retail experience. This partnership enables KQ to expand its global reach while empowering agents to deliver the tailor-made offers that travelers now demand,” Roux stated.
With full implementation, travel sellers across the globe will gain access to the airline’s entire suite of NDC content unlocking new possibilities in customized travel offerings for Kenya Airways customers worldwide.
