Kenya Airways and Qatar Airways Seal Strategic Partnership to Boost Regional Connectivity
Kenya Airways and Qatar Airways have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening air connectivity between Africa and the Middle East through a strategic partnership. The agreement, signed in Doha by Qatar Airways Group CEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer and Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka, will see the two airlines enter into a comprehensive codeshare arrangement.
As part of the deal, Qatar Airways will introduce a third daily flight between Doha and Nairobi, operating under a codeshare with Kenya Airways. The new frequency, expected to be available for booking soon, will significantly expand travel options for passengers and enhance connectivity through Qatar Airways’ award-winning hub, Hamad International Airport. Additionally, Kenya Airways is set to launch flights between Mombasa and Doha this winter, operated by Kenya Airways and marketed by Qatar Airways.
The collaboration also includes plans for extensive codesharing across both airlines’ networks, promising travellers greater convenience and more destination choices worldwide.
“This partnership is yet another demonstration of our deepening ties with the African region,” said Engr. Al-Meer, noting the agreement coincides with Qatar Airways’ 20th anniversary of operations in Kenya.
Kilavuka highlighted the deal as a key milestone in Kenya Airways’ turnaround journey. “It aligns with our strategy that led to our return to profitability earlier this year. It will boost tourism and cargo trade, serving as an economic catalyst for Kenya and East Africa,” he said.
Beyond passenger services, the two carriers will explore collaboration in other business areas, including cargo operations, airport and ground services, loyalty programmes, procurement, and aircraft maintenance. The partnership is expected to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen aviation ties between the two regions.
