120 Youth Graduate with Digital Skills through DigiTruck Training in Kisii County

KISII, Kenya – August 28, 2025 – More than 120 young people from Kisii County have graduated from a four-week digital skills training program delivered through the Huawei DigiTruck, a mobile, solar-powered digital classroom that brings technology training to underserved communities.

The graduates received practical lessons in basic computer applications, internet navigation, online safety, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship. With this milestone, the DigiTruck program has now equipped over 6,200 youth across 39 counties with digital competencies, enabling them to tap into Kenya’s fast-growing digital economy.

The graduation ceremony, held at Bogesaka Primary Grounds in Nyamache Division, was officiated by Mr. Stephen Isaboke, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, alongside Mr. Adam Lane, Director for Policy and Partnerships at Huawei Kenya.

Speaking at the event, PS Isaboke highlighted the critical role of digital literacy in everyday life. “Through our phones and laptops, we can access not only news and global information but also government services and economic opportunities. From health to education, the internet has become a bridge to essential services. It is therefore vital for every citizen to acquire the skills that will allow them to thrive in this fast-changing world,” he said.

He applauded Huawei and its partners for ensuring rural communities are not excluded from Kenya’s digital transformation. “The DigiTruck program is a commendable effort. By reaching remote areas, it has given thousands of youth the tools they need to improve their livelihoods. Today, we celebrate an additional 120 beneficiaries from Kisii County who now have the capacity to actively shape their future,” he added.

Representing Huawei Kenya, Mr. Lane reaffirmed the company’s commitment to digital inclusion. “Through the DigiTruck, we are investing in people and communities. Equipping citizens with digital skills fosters inclusion while preparing the workforce required for Kenya’s digital future,” he said.

Graduates shared inspiring stories of transformation. One participant expressed gratitude, noting: “I never thought I would get the chance to learn computer skills in my village. The DigiTruck made it possible for me to type documents, use email, and even apply for online jobs. This training has given me hope that I can earn a living without leaving my community.”

The DigiTruck is part of Huawei’s Tech4All global initiative, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, the Ministry of Education, the ICT Authority, and Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK). The initiative aligns with Kenya’s Digital Superhighway strategy and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), aiming to empower grassroots communities with skills for jobs and entrepreneurship.
