OPPO Kenya Addresses Influencer Payment Concerns, Takes Legal Action Against AIfluence
OPPO Kenya has responded to concerns raised by influencers regarding unpaid dues for their participation in the OPPO Reno12 series campaign.
The company clarified that it had fully honored its financial commitments and placed the responsibility on the influencer marketing agency, AIfluence, which was contracted to manage the campaign.
In a statement, OPPO Kenya explained that it had engaged AIfluence to handle influencer contracts, deliverables and payments.
The company made an initial 50 percent down payment to the agency and completed the remaining 50 percent on October 25, 2024, in line with their contractual agreement.
However, despite OPPO Kenya fulfilling its financial obligations, some influencers have reported non-payment for their work.
Legal Support for Affected Influencers while acknowledging the frustrations of the affected influencers, OPPO Kenya noted that all influencer contracts were signed directly with AIfluence, not OPPO Kenya.
The company stated that, under Kenyan law, it lacks the legal standing to pursue AIfluence on behalf of the influencers. However, it has offered legal assistance, including covering legal costs, for influencers seeking compensation a move that none of them has yet taken up.OPPO Kenya Takes Legal Action Against AIfluence.
In addition to supporting influencers, OPPO Kenya has initiated legal proceedings against AIfluence for defamation and brand damage caused by the agency’s failure to meet its payment obligations.
“OPPO Kenya does not condone the frustrations influencers are experiencing and remains committed to supporting them through this process. We value the contributions of all creatives and are dedicated to fostering transparent, fair, and respectful partnerships in the Kenyan market,” the statement read.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that influencers’ rights are protected and that fair compensation is upheld in all future collaborations.
