Old Mutual, AAK Seal Strategic Deal to Boost Risk Protection for Architects and Engineers

Old Mutual has entered into a strategic partnership with the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) to provide customized professional indemnity insurance to over 5,000 licensed architects and consulting engineers across the country.

The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is designed to offer AAK members access to comprehensive, competitively priced insurance solutions tailored to their professional needs.

The cover will protect members from liabilities arising from professional negligence, errors of omission or commission, and breaches of duty  risks that are inherent in the practice of architecture and engineering.

Speaking during the MoU signing, Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya Managing Director Japheth Ogalloh emphasized the importance of the agreement in addressing industry-specific risks.

“Built environment professionals play a critical role in shaping the spaces we live and work in. However, their responsibilities come with significant professional risks,” said Ogalloh.

He added, “This partnership is a major step in ensuring that architects and engineers can perform their duties with confidence, knowing they are protected. It reflects our commitment to delivering relevant, responsive insurance solutions that empower professionals to thrive in their fields.”

Ogalloh noted that the professional indemnity cover meets global standards while offering localized support and benefits, aligning with Old Mutual’s broader strategy to serve niche professional sectors with customized insurance offerings.

The collaboration is expected to enhance professional accountability while ensuring that AAK members operate within a safeguarded framework, especially in a sector where litigation and financial liability can significantly impact careers and firms.

The AAK lauded the initiative as a timely and strategic intervention to improve risk management and professional resilience within the built environment sector. The move also sets a new benchmark for industry-focused insurance partnerships in Kenya.
