Tareq Muhmood to Lead Visa’s Digital Payment Expansion in CEMEA Region
Visa has appointed Tareq Muhmood as the new Regional President for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA). In this strategic leadership role, Muhmood will oversee Visa’s operations across 86 diverse and fast-growing markets, where the company serves over 1,800 clients through 23 local offices.
Muhmood brings more than 30 years of experience in banking and the payments industry. Prior to this appointment, he led Visa Europe’s Value-Added Services portfolio from London. He joined Visa in 2019 as Group Country Manager for Southeast Asia, operating out of Singapore. His career spans key leadership roles at Ahli United Bank, ANZ, and HSBC, and he has worked across 13 countries.
Based in Dubai, Muhmood will report directly to Oliver Jenkyn, Visa’s Group President for Global Markets. He replaces Andrew Torre, who now heads Visa’s global Value-Added Services unit now a $9 billion business growing at 20 percent annually since 2021.
“Tareq’s extensive expertise in financial services and high-growth markets makes him an ideal choice to lead our fastest-growing region,” said Jenkyn. “He has a strong track record of building client partnerships in complex markets, and we’re confident he will drive our mission to expand digital payments.”
Muhmood expressed his enthusiasm for the role, highlighting his deep connection with the region. “It is an honor to lead CEMEA during this exciting phase of digital transformation,” he said. “Having spent a third of my career here, I see vast potential to accelerate digital payments and promote inclusive economic growth. I look forward to partnering with our clients to create shared value.”
His appointment signals Visa’s continued investment in driving financial inclusion and digital innovation across the region.
