I&M Foundation Marks Five Years of Transformative Community Impact in Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya, August 29, 2025 – The I&M Foundation, the philanthropic arm of I&M Group PLC, has celebrated its fifth anniversary with a milestone event held at Strathmore University. The gathering highlighted five years of impactful work in sustainable development, underscoring the Foundation’s role in driving long-term social change in Kenya.
Established in 2020, the I&M Foundation is funded through an annual endowment of 2% of I&M Bank Kenya’s Profit Before Tax. Over the past five years, it has built a reputation as a strong force for transformation, operating under four key pillars: Environmental Conservation, Education and Skills Development, Economic Empowerment, and Enabling Giving.
The anniversary event showcased flagship initiatives and personal stories from beneficiaries. Among them were scholarship recipients now pursuing higher education at institutions such as Strathmore University, and young entrepreneurs who have gained vital skills through collaborations with organizations like The King’s Trust International and Asante Africa Foundation.
Mr. Eric Kimani, Chairman of the I&M Foundation, reflected on the journey so far. “For the past five years, we have worked diligently to invest in solutions that not only address immediate needs but also build long-term resilience and sustainability.
Our model of working through strategic, on-the-ground partnerships allows us to amplify our impact and ensure that our initiatives are truly community-led. This anniversary is not only a celebration of progress but also a re-commitment to empowering the communities we serve.”
Echoing this vision, Mr. James Gatere, Head of I&M Foundation, emphasized the depth of the Foundation’s impact. “The stories we’ve heard today are a testament to our philosophy that real change is both sustainable and transformative. As we look to the future, we are committed to deepening our efforts in environmental conservation, equipping young people with future-ready skills, and fostering economic opportunities across Kenya.”
Key initiatives highlighted included Project Imarisha Ngong Forest a multi-year collaboration with the Kenya Forest Service to restore and protect one of Nairobi’s key urban forests and the Foundation’s partnership with the Palmhouse Foundation to support bright but disadvantaged students.
As it enters its next chapter, the I&M Foundation reaffirmed its mission of being a catalyst for shared value, leveraging the Group’s resources and expertise to create a legacy of positive impact for generations to come.
