Xbox Game Camp Returns to Africa for 3rd, Spotlighting Local Game Development Talent

Cape Town, South Africa – Xbox Game Camp is set to return to Africa for its third consecutive year, continuing its mission to nurture and empower game developers across the continent. The announcement was made today via Xbox Wire, underscoring Microsoft’s commitment to accelerating growth in Africa’s gaming industry.

The 2025 edition, held in partnership with ID@Xbox’s Developer Acceleration Program (DAP), will run as a 12-week intensive program. Pre-selected professional game studios from across Africa will take part, advancing their projects from initial concepts to working prototypes or vertical slices. Throughout the program, participants will benefit from mentorship and technical guidance from Team Xbox experts.

Since its launch, Xbox Game Camp Africa has reached over 1,900 aspiring game creators. The initiative has become a launchpad for African talent, opening pathways into the global gaming industry. One notable success story is Kenyan studio Kunta Content, which developed its debut game Hiru following its participation in the first two editions of the camp.

Kunta Content recently unveiled a trailer for Hiru, showcasing vivid African landscapes and diverse storylines inspired by the continent’s rich heritage. “We are beyond excited to finally share a glimpse of the world of Hiru,” said Dean Gichukie, CEO and Game Producer at Kunta Content. “This trailer is a testament to our team’s passion and the incredible support from Xbox. Through Game Camp, we have been able to bring Africa to life in ways that have never been seen before — from the beauty of the Masai Mara to the mysteries of the Congo and the vastness of the desert.”

The camp’s official kickoff will take place on December 4 in Cape Town, held in collaboration with Africa Games Week, one of the continent’s leading gaming conferences. The event is expected to draw developers, investors, and industry leaders keen on exploring Africa’s rapidly growing gaming ecosystem.

By providing mentorship, tools, and international exposure, Xbox Game Camp Africa is helping shape the next generation of creators and fostering an industry where African stories, cultures, and innovations take center stage.
