Java Foundation and Craft Silicon Foundation Partner to Boost School Feeding and Digital Literacy

The Java Foundation and Craft Silicon Foundation have unveiled a strategic partnership aimed at empowering underserved communities through school feeding and digital literacy programs. The two organisations formalised their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that signals a shared commitment to improving educational outcomes in Kenya.

The initiative will see the Java Foundation provide daily nutritious meals to students enrolled in Craft Silicon Foundation’s ICT training programs, ensuring that learners are well-fed and ready to learn. In turn, Craft Silicon Foundation will deploy its solar-powered mobile computer labs and ICT curriculum to schools supported by Java Foundation’s feeding program, beginning with Gatina and Ngunyumu Primary Schools in Nairobi.

“Learning begins with a full stomach,” said Java House Group CEO Priscilla Gathungu during the MoU signing ceremony. “This partnership fuels children’s potential by combining nutrition with digital skills for a brighter future.”

Craft Silicon Foundation CEO Priya Budhabhatti echoed the sentiment, stating, “ICT is a bridge between poverty and opportunity. By joining hands with Java Foundation, we are tackling two key barriers to education: hunger and lack of access to technology.”

To date, Craft Silicon Foundation has trained over 74,000 students across Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and India. It also leads initiatives in menstrual hygiene, vaccinations, tree planting, and school feeding. Meanwhile, Java Foundation, in partnership with Food For Education, provides free school lunches to over 2,500 children daily and is piloting hydroponic gardens in schools.

The partnership marks a significant milestone in community-led development, with both foundations pledging to monitor progress and scale the initiative to reach more learners across the country.
