The future of Cricket Kenya took a decisive turn on Sunday after the Council approved the AOS T20 tournament and moved to settle long-standing leadership wrangles during a special general meeting at Utalii Hotel in Nairobi.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Council representative Mr. Michael Riwa said the tournament now has the full backing of the federation.
“The council members have now approved and gave blessings for the said tournament to go on and likewise gave mandate to the board to make preparations for the AOS T20 tournament to proceed,” he said.
The Council also reaffirmed its leadership by resolving the chairmanship dispute that had clouded the organization in recent months.
“It is hereby resolved that Mr. Manoj Patel remains the legitimate Chairman of Cricket Kenya,” Mr. Riwa stated.
In a raft of additional reforms, the Council appointed Mr. Walter Trenk Mukinginyi as Interim Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect to oversee daily operations, protect assets, and initiate the recruitment of a substantive CEO. The Independent Elections Panel was dissolved over non-performance, with a new body to be constituted within 30 days to supervise the Vice-Chairman’s election in line with the constitution.
The meeting further confirmed the expiry of nominated board members’ terms and approved the co-option of eleven new members from across the counties into the board. A disciplinary committee was also formed to investigate allegations against staff currently on compulsory leave, with findings expected within 21 days.
“It is hereby resolved that the council has taken decisive action to restore stability, integrity, and constitutional order in Cricket Kenya,” he said.
