KenGen to Host Sustainable Energy Conference 2026 in Naivasha
Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) will host the Sustainable Energy Conference 2026 in Naivasha from November 24 to 27, bringing together energy-sector stakeholders to examine how clean and reliable power can support Africa’s industrial and economic development.
The four-day conference will be held at the KenGen Olkaria Geothermal Spa under the theme, “Powering Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution.”
The conference will focus on Africa’s changing energy needs and the role electricity can play beyond improving access and increasing generation capacity. Discussions are expected to examine how reliable power can support manufacturing, investment, employment, technology and digital businesses.
KenGen said the continent has an opportunity to use its renewable energy resources to support economic development while pursuing a lower-carbon energy system.
Africa has significant potential in geothermal, hydropower, solar and wind energy. The development of these resources, alongside investment in transmission networks, industrial infrastructure and manufacturing, could support the expansion of energy-intensive industries and strengthen local value chains.
The discussions will come as African countries continue to face challenges related to electricity access, affordability, reliability and infrastructure. At the same time, demand for power is expected to grow as economies expand and more industries adopt digital technologies.
Reliable electricity is particularly important for manufacturing and processing industries, where interruptions can affect production and operating costs. The conference is expected to examine ways of linking energy development with industrial investment and job creation.
The choice of Olkaria as the venue also places Kenya’s geothermal experience at the centre of the conference. The Olkaria geothermal fields in Nakuru County are a major source of renewable electricity in Kenya and have helped increase the country’s geothermal generation capacity.
The conference will provide a platform for energy companies, investors, policymakers, development partners and other stakeholders to discuss the relationship between energy and economic growth.
Topics are expected to include investment in renewable energy, industrial development, technology, infrastructure and the use of clean power to strengthen African businesses and value chains.
