705 National Police Reservists Graduate in Meru

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has commended 705 newly trained National Police Reservists for completing their training and joining efforts to enhance security in communities across the country.

Murkomen spoke on Tuesday during a passing-out parade for the reservists at Magado in Meru County, where he also recognised the contribution of existing National Police Reservists in maintaining peace and security.

The CS said the joint training of the reservists marked the first time the group had undergone training together, describing the initiative as an important step towards strengthening cooperation and relationships among communities.

Murkomen also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to increasing the participation of women in the National Police Reservists, noting the contribution of the women who graduated during the ceremony.

He said the Government would implement recommendations arising from Jukwaa la Usalama as part of broader efforts to improve security across the country.

The CS warned the newly trained reservists against misuse of firearms, stressing that weapons entrusted to them must be used to protect communities rather than threaten residents.

He said those found misusing firearms for personal gain would face action, including prosecution in accordance with the law.

The reservists were urged to remain vigilant in their areas of deployment and work closely with other security agencies to combat crime and bring suspected criminals to justice.

Murkomen also cautioned the reservists against incitement and urged them not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for personal interests.

He instead called on them to remain committed to serving the country and protecting the communities entrusted to them.

Eleven chiefs who underwent the training alongside the reservists were tasked with addressing the challenge of illicit alcohol in their respective villages and working closely with security agencies to safeguard their communities.

Murkomen urged the newly trained reservists to uphold discipline, integrity and professionalism as they return to their communities to serve and protect Kenyans.
