Deputy Inspector General Temporarily Leaves Office Amid Public Outcry over Ojwang Death

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) has voluntarily stepped aside from his duties pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into the death of Mr. Albert Ojwang signaling accountability and transparency within the National Police Service.

In a statement released Monday, the DIG acknowledged the gravity of the matter and expressed a deep sense of responsibility toward the role and the public interest. “In good and conscious thought of my role and responsibilities as the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, and in view of the ongoing investigations on the unfortunate incident of the death of Mr. Albert Ojwang, I have today opted to step aside,” he stated.

He further noted that during the period of investigation, his deputy will carry out the functions of the office to ensure continued service and operational stability within the force. The DIG pledged full cooperation with investigators, stating that he would provide any support required to facilitate the probe into the incident.

While distancing himself from any interference with the investigation, the DIG conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Albert Ojwang, describing it as a “great loss” and offering his solidarity during the difficult period.
