AI Gains Traction in Insurance as ByteForce and Curacel Drive Innovation in Africa
The African insurance landscape is poised for a digital transformation as ByteForce, a global leader in AI-driven insurance technology, partners with Curacel to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption across the continent. The announcement was made during an industry engagement forum that brought together leading players in the sector to discuss the future of insurance in Africa.
Speaking at the event, Nasir Shamasi, Director of Sales, Marketing, and Partnerships for the EMEA region at ByteForce, said the company is entering the African market with the aim of helping insurers modernize outdated legacy systems through AI and cloud-based solutions.
“This is my first visit to the region, and we’re excited about the opportunity to collaborate with Curacel to address the growing demand for AI solutions in the insurance sector,” said Shamasi. “Many insurers globally are facing legacy challenges, and we’re working to help them enhance customer engagement, streamline claims processes, and scale their operations.”
Shamasi revealed that ByteForce is currently engaging with about nine insurers across Africa, with strong interest in medical, home, and auto insurance segments. He emphasized the importance of scalability, regulatory compliance, and technological adaptability in driving industry-wide transformation.
“AI cannot be implemented in isolation,” he noted. “We need regulatory guardrails, portfolio-level scalability, and strategic collaboration to truly deliver impact.”
On the marketing front, Shamasi recommended regular executive roundtables and quarterly leadership forums to sustain momentum and create awareness among decision-makers in the insurance space.
Echoing the importance of AI integration, Dr. Jane Nyapara from Jubilee Health Insurance commended the session, organized by Curacel, as timely and relevant. She shared insights into Jubilee’s ongoing digital journey.
“As Jubilee Health Insurance, we’ve already started applying AI in areas like claims processing and client service,” Dr. Nyapara said. “We use chatbots to help customers understand their coverage and policy details. But we’re also mindful of maintaining a personalized experience, especially in health insurance, which is inherently personal.”
She added that AI presents an opportunity to not only optimize backend processes but also deliver value-based care to clients and ensure that premiums translate to tangible benefits.
With companies like ByteForce and Jubilee Health Insurance leading the charge, the African insurance sector is on the cusp of a technological leap one that promises smarter, faster, and more inclusive services for millions.
