Suspect Arrested After Police Recover Narcotics During Busia CBD Operation
A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Busia after detectives recovered suspected narcotic drugs during an intelligence-led operation in the town’s Central Business District.
The suspect, identified as Ouma Dibogo Obobo, a resident of Migori County, was apprehended by law enforcement officers following a targeted operation based on information received from members of the public.

According to police, detectives acted swiftly on a tip-off and tracked the suspect to Busia’s main bus stage, where he was intercepted before he could leave the area.
A search conducted on the suspect’s backpack led to the recovery of three packages wrapped in yellow cello tape containing suspected cannabis sativa.
Officers also discovered 26 sachets containing an unidentified powdery substance. The substance has since been forwarded to forensic experts for scientific analysis to determine its composition and whether it falls under prohibited narcotic or psychotropic substances.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and escorted to Busia Police Station together with the recovered exhibits, where he remains as investigations continue.
Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs within the country.
The arrest comes amid intensified crackdowns by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and other security agencies targeting individuals suspected of participating in the narcotics trade.
Authorities have expressed concern over the continued use of border towns and transport hubs by traffickers seeking to move illegal substances across counties and international borders.
Investigators are now working to establish the source of the recovered drugs, their intended destination and whether the suspect was acting alone or as part of a wider trafficking network.
The unidentified powder recovered from the suspect is expected to undergo laboratory testing, with the results likely to determine whether additional charges will be preferred against him.
Law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to combating the illegal drug trade, noting that narcotics continue to pose a serious threat to public health, security and the welfare of young people.
In a statement, the DCI said it remains steadfast in its efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in drug trafficking, intercept contraband at points of entry and transit routes, and ensure those involved are brought to justice.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in its fight against drug trafficking, working relentlessly to dismantle narcotics networks, intercept contraband at all points of entry and ensure that those who profit from the illicit drug trade face the full force of the law,” the agency said.
The suspect is expected to be processed and presented before court once investigations are completed and the forensic analysis results are received.
Police have also urged members of the public to continue sharing information that may help security agencies identify and arrest individuals involved in the manufacture, transportation and sale of illegal drugs.
