UDA Set for High-Stakes Repeat Grassroots Elections Across 18 Counties
Nairobi, Kenya, April 22, 2026 — The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will on Thursday, April 23, conduct its Repeat Phase II grassroots elections across 18 counties, in a major exercise expected to shape the party’s local leadership structure ahead of future political contests.
The elections will be held in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Bungoma, Makueni, Machakos, Kitui, Isiolo, Marsabit, Taita Taveta, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, and Turkana counties. Kajiado County will hold its polls later on Saturday, April 25.
According to the party, the exercise has drawn significant interest, with more than 450,000 candidates registering to vie for 20 different grassroots positions at polling centres. These positions represent diverse groups including women, youth, persons with special interests, farmers, religious leaders, professionals, and small-scale traders.
UDA projects a turnout of about eight million voters across more than 9,000 polling centres, underscoring the scale of the exercise and its importance in consolidating the party’s grassroots base.
The party has already conducted similar elections in 25 counties, marking steady progress in its nationwide internal electoral process.
In a statement read by Cecily Mbarire said the repeat elections reflect the party’s commitment to democratic, inclusive, and transparent processes at the grassroots level. She noted that the exercise is designed to give members a direct voice in leadership selection while strengthening internal structures across all regions.
Mbarire further emphasized that the use of technology will enhance credibility and efficiency, assuring party members of a free and fair process. She urged all registered voters to turn out in large numbers and participate peacefully.
To enhance transparency and efficiency, UDA will deploy an end-to-end digital system, with 9,500 electronic voting tablets distributed across polling centres. Election results are expected to be transmitted and made publicly accessible in real-time through the party’s official platform.
Voting will begin at 8:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m.
Upon completion, the elections are expected to produce 182,240 grassroots officials, each with a direct mandate from party members, further strengthening UDA’s grassroots governance and political mobilization structures.
