UDA Announces Repeat Grassroots Elections, Special NGC Meeting and Launch of Aspirants Forum

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced repeat grassroots elections in selected polling centres, the convening of a Special National Governing Council (NGC) meeting, and the establishment of a new aspirants’ forum as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 General Elections.

Reading a statement during a press briefing on party grassroots elections and scheduled political activities, UDA National Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire said the decisions were reached during a National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting held on Wednesday, January 20, 2026, and presided over by the Party Leader, President William Ruto.

She said the NSC reviewed reports from the National Elections Board (NEB) and the Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC) regarding the recently concluded grassroots elections conducted in 42 counties during Phase II in June 2025 and Phase III in January 2026.

Following ENDRC rulings and a resolution by the National Executive Committee (NEC), the party will conduct repeat elections in select polling centres across the affected counties. Phase III repeat elections will be held on March 7, 2026, while Phase II repeat elections are scheduled for March 28, 2026. Registration for aspirants seeking various positions at the polling centre level has opened today on the party’s website.

In light of the election outcomes, Mbarire announced that UDA will convene a Special National Governing Council meeting on Monday, January 26, 2026, at State House, Nairobi. The meeting will be chaired by President Ruto and will bring together all elected and nominated UDA leaders, including governors, senators, members of Parliament, MCAs and EALA representatives.

During the meeting, the NGC will receive a scorecard on the implementation of the government’s manifesto, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), a report on the party’s grassroots elections from the NEB, and ratify an NEC resolution authorising the Party Leader to commence structured negotiations with the ODM Party.

Additionally, the NSC has resolved to establish a UDA Aspirants Forum to manage the growing number of members seeking to contest elective positions in 2027. Registration for aspirants opens today through the UDA portal, with the inaugural forum meeting scheduled for February 4, 2026, at State House, Nairobi.

UDA has urged all members intending to vie for elective office in the 2027 General Elections to register promptly as the party intensifies its internal organisation and political engagement ahead of the polls.
