Home School Chases Historic Hat-Trick as 89 Junior Golfers Converge on Royal Nairobi

A total of 89 junior golfers from 16 schools will battle for interschool golf honours on Friday at the NCBA Lisle Shaw Memorial Interschool Golf Competition at Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The competition will feature 19 teams in the Main Tournament (Gross) and eight teams in the Subsidiary Tournament (Net), offering young golfers an opportunity to showcase their talent while competing for school honours.

Home School will be seeking a third consecutive title after winning the 2024 and 2025 editions, ending Premier Academy’s three-year winning streak.

The defending champions face another competitive field as schools seek to claim the coveted trophy in the third interschool golf tournament of the year.

The Main Tournament (Gross) will count the best three scores from a team of four golfers, while the Subsidiary Tournament (Net) will be decided by the best two scores from a team of three players. The formats are designed to test team depth, consistency and individual performance.

Among the leading juniors expected to compete is Shashwat Harish of Peponi School, who made his Kenya Open debut at the age of 15.

He will be joined by promising golfers, including Home School’s Mwathi Gicheru, Wahome Mutahi of Rosslyn Academy and Andrew Kagima of Rusinga School.

The competition also celebrates the legacy of George Lisle Gordon Shaw, who served as Kenya Golf Union president in 1953.

Tournament Director Hannah Gatu said the event plays an important role in developing junior golf by providing structured competition and opportunities for young players to advance in the sport.

“The Lisle Shaw Interschool Golf Tournament contributes to the broader development of school golf in Kenya by connecting school-based participation with structured junior competition,” Gatu said.

“Through our partnership with NCBA Bank, we continue to expand opportunities for young players to access the game and develop their potential.”

She added that the tournament complements the Foundation’s Golf in Schools initiative, which seeks to introduce golf to more learners and establish pathways from introductory school programmes to organised junior competition.

The participating schools are Braeburn Garden Estate, Braeside Primary School, Brookhurst International School–Lavington, Crawford International School, Hillcrest International School, Home School, Nova Pioneer International, Oshwal Academy Nairobi–Primary, Oshwal Academy–Junior High, Peponi House, Peponi School, Premier Academy, Rosslyn Academy, Rusinga School, St Christopher’s International School–Karen and St. Ruth School.

The competition is expected to highlight the growing role of school-based tournaments in nurturing young golfing talent and strengthening Kenya’s junior golf pipeline.
