PS Mwangi Hails Mumbi Stadium as Beacon of Hope for Young Athletes
Murang’a County is emerging as a key hub for sports development as the construction of the 10,000-seater Mumbi Stadium gathers pace, signaling the government’s commitment to nurturing and developing talent across the country.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi described the stadium as more than a physical structure, saying it represents hope, opportunity and a brighter future for thousands of young people seeking to transform their sporting talents into successful careers.
The facility, currently under construction in Murang’a County, will feature a standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletics track, modern spectator stands, a VIP pavilion, changing rooms and other world-class amenities aimed at supporting sports development.
According to the PS, the stadium is designed to inspire dreams, nurture talent and elevate sports in Murang’a and the wider Central Kenya region.
Once completed, Mumbi Stadium is expected to place Murang’a among counties with modern sporting infrastructure capable of hosting major national and international competitions. The development is also projected to create new opportunities for athletes, businesses and local communities.
The project forms part of the government’s broader agenda to establish sports infrastructure across all counties through the construction of stadiums, sports academies and community sports grounds.
Mwangi noted that sports remains a powerful tool for individual empowerment, social cohesion, community development and economic transformation beyond the competitive arena.
He said the country is steadily moving towards a future where talent is identified, nurtured and celebrated in every corner of Kenya, adding that continued investment in sports infrastructure is helping transform the nation’s sporting ecosystem and secure a lasting legacy for future generations.
