Nairobi Hospital golf tournament raises funds for children needing heart surgery
The Nairobi Hospital has mobilised resources to support life-saving cardiac treatment for children from disadvantaged backgrounds through its 2026 Children’s Charity Heart Fund Golf Tournament held at Karen Country Club.
The annual tournament brought together corporate partners, sponsors, golfers, philanthropists and members of the public to raise funds for children diagnosed with congenital and acquired heart conditions who require specialised treatment but cannot afford the cost of care.
The fundraiser is a flagship initiative of The Nairobi Hospital’s Children’s Charity Heart Fund, which seeks to bring together the corporate community, healthcare partners and well-wishers to expand access to specialised paediatric cardiac services.
“Every child who comes to us for heart surgery has usually run out of time and money before they reach our door. This tournament exists to close that gap,” said The Nairobi Hospital Chief Executive Officer Felix Osano.
“Every fee, sponsorship and prize contributed today converts directly into theatre time, diagnostics and the specialist care these children need, and we are grateful to every partner who keeps showing up for them,” he added.
The hospital said the tournament has continued to strengthen partnerships with corporate organisations, development partners, sponsors and individual donors, helping expand access to specialised cardiac care and improve treatment outcomes for children living with heart disease.
Through the Children’s Charity Heart Fund, The Nairobi Hospital has provided free, life-saving heart surgery to more than 400 children over the years.
The hospital expressed appreciation to sponsors, golfers, partners, volunteers and other supporters whose contributions have sustained the initiative and enabled vulnerable children to access critical medical care.
“A hospital is measured by how it treats those least able to pay, and the Children’s Charity Heart Fund is where that principle is tested every year,” said Kenya Hospital Association Board of Management Chairman Dr Barcley Onyambu.
“On behalf of the Board of Management, I thank every sponsor and partner who treats this tournament as a standing commitment, not a single evening of goodwill,” he added.
The tournament forms part of The Nairobi Hospital’s broader commitment to promoting equitable access to quality healthcare through strategic partnerships, philanthropy and sustainable community initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable children and their families.
