RUTO CONDOLES WITH SENATOR KHALWALE AFTER SUDDEN DEATH OF WIFE GLORIA SEKEIYAN
President William Samoei Ruto has joined the nation in mourning the sudden death of Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, the wife of Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale.
Gloria died on Saturday morning, August 15th, 2026, after collapsing following a heart attack, as confirmed by the Senator himself in a heartbreaking announcement on his verified social media account.
In his statement posted on Saturday, Senator Khalwale said:
“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack. She is the mother of Engineer Kukaste Khalwale, Olivia Sabayi Khalwale, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, Gift Atubukha Khalwale, Meliza Khamwenyi Khalwale, Velma Nasiebanda Khalwale, Sonia Inuni Khalwale and Maura Makatse Khalwale.”
The announcement has triggered a wave of grief and sympathy across the country, with political leaders, friends and Kenyans from all walks of life sending condolences to the family.
Leading the tributes, President William Ruto sent a message of comfort to the family, saying he and First Lady Rachel Ruto were standing with the Khalwale family during this difficult moment.
In his condolence message, President Ruto stated:
“Mama Rachel and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale following the passing of his beloved wife, Gloria Sekeiyan. We stand with Senator Khalwale and his family in this moment of immense grief.”

Gloria Sekeiyan was known as a humble, family-oriented woman who kept a low public profile despite her husband’s high-profile political career. She was the backbone of the Khalwale family and a mother to eight children.
Senator Khalwale, popularly known as ‘The Bullfighter’, has been a prominent figure in Kakamega and national politics for over two decades, serving as MP for Ikolomani and now as Senator for Kakamega County.
By the time of publication, the family was yet to announce funeral arrangements. Relatives said more details would be communicated in due course as they make burial plans in Kakamega.
