Murkomen tells Uhuru to step back from politics, focus on statesmanship

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to keep off active politics and instead play a statesman role by offering guidance and counsel to the country’s leadership.

Speaking on today during a church service at Presbyterian Church of East Africa Ngaini in Mathira, Nyeri County, Murkomen said former leaders have a critical role in promoting unity and stability by supporting the leadership of the day rather than engaging in political activities.

The Cabinet Secretary said the country needs experienced leaders to provide wisdom and mentorship, especially at a time when Kenya is facing social and economic challenges that require collective effort and national cohesion.

Murkomen’s remarks come amid heightened political activity across the country, with leaders increasingly positioning themselves ahead of future political contests.

At the same time, the Interior CS announced fresh security interventions in Nyeri County to address the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse, which he said continues to affect many young people in the region.

Murkomen revealed that National Police Service Inspector General Douglas Kanja will deploy a special police unit to intensify the fight against drug traffickers and their networks.

He said the government is determined to dismantle the supply chain of narcotics and hold accountable those facilitating the trade, warning that the vice poses a serious threat to the future of the youth.

In addition, Murkomen announced intelligence-led operations targeting livestock and coffee theft, crimes that have become increasingly common in parts of Nyeri County and neighboring areas.

He noted that farmers have suffered significant losses due to the theft of livestock and coffee, which remain key sources of livelihood for many households in the Mt Kenya region.

Murkomen assured residents that security agencies would work closely with local leaders and the community to restore order and protect livelihoods.

The CS was accompanied by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, Nyeri County Commissioner Josphat Biwott, MCAs and other leaders.
