Murkomen Inspects Sh2bn Prisons Hospital, Housing and Water Projects in Ruiru
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday inspected key infrastructure projects within the correctional services sector, including a newly completed 150-bed hospital at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The CS toured the Wanini Kireri Magereza Level 4 Hospital, an ultra-modern medical facility that is complete and awaiting commissioning. The hospital is expected to provide healthcare services to correctional officers and residents of the surrounding community.
Cs Murkomen said the investment reflect the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of officers while enhancing access to quality healthcare services.
The Cabinet Secretary also inspected a newly completed 50-unit housing project at the institution, noting that the development will significantly improve the living conditions of correctional officers and their families.
In addition, he visited the Pri Aqua Water Bottling Plant, a project established to enhance access to safe drinking water while generating additional revenue for the institution.
The inspection forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to modernise correctional facilities and improve service delivery within the prison sector.
Accompanying the CS were Principal Secretary for Correctional Services Dr. Salome Beacco, Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh, Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons Jane Kirii, and Commandant of the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College Angus Masoro, among other senior officers.
The projects are expected to strengthen the capacity of correctional institutions while supporting the welfare and productivity of officers across the country.
