Mama Betty Adera Unveils People-Centered Leadership Vision for Westlands

Westlands is being urged to embrace a new model of leadership that prioritizes service, accountability, and inclusive development, as Hon. Betty Adhiambo Adera popularly known as Mama Betty articulates her vision for a people-first future.

Speaking on her leadership philosophy, Mama Betty emphasized that effective governance must be rooted in listening to citizens and responding to their everyday needs. She said leadership should reflect the realities of mothers striving to support families, young people pursuing opportunities, workers sustaining the economy, and communities seeking dignity and security.

Her approach, she noted, is anchored in compassion, integrity, and action rather than unfulfilled promises. “Good leadership means putting the people first, while good governance ensures public resources are used fairly and wisely,” she said, adding that accountability and transparency are essential in building trust between leaders and the community.

Mama Betty outlined infrastructure development as a key priority, calling for better roads, reliable public services, safer neighborhoods, and modern facilities to support economic growth. She stressed that development should be visible and tangible in homes, schools, markets, and streets across Westlands.

Youth employment and women empowerment also feature prominently in her agenda. She advocates for skills training, entrepreneurship support, and access to opportunities that create sustainable livelihoods. “When our people work, Westlands works,” she said.

Describing her leadership as one that walks with the people rather than above them, Mama Betty pledged to ensure that every voice regardless of age, income, or background is heard and translated into action.

She  called for unity and service as the foundation of lasting change, urging residents to take an active role in shaping the future of Westlands. “The future is not something we wait for,” she said. “It is something we build together.”
