Korir hails Sawe, Obiri and Jepkosgei after London heroics
NOCK Deputy President Barnabas Korir has joined the growing list of athletics stakeholders in congratulating Kenyan runners following their outstanding performances at the London Marathon.
Korir lauded Sabastian Sawe for his historic run, where he stormed to victory in a remarkable 1:59:30, describing the feat as a proud moment for Kenyan athletics and a continuation of the country’s global dominance in long-distance running.
He also praised Hellen Obiri for her strong performance in finishing second in the women’s race in 2:15:53, as well as Joyciline Jepkosgei, who secured third place in 2:15:55, noting that the double podium finish was a clear demonstration of Kenya’s depth and strength in women’s marathon running.
Korir said the results reflect the resilience, discipline and consistency of Kenyan athletes, adding that such performances continue to inspire the next generation of runners across the country.
He further noted that the achievements in London, coming just a day after the successful staging of the Absa Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, underline Kenya’s growing influence both on and off the track in global athletics.
The London exploits have since sparked widespread celebration within the athletics fraternity, with officials and former athletes describing the performances as a reaffirmation of Kenya’s place at the pinnacle of world distance running.
