IamtheCODE, Equity Group Foundation Partner to Boost Digital and AI Skills Across Africa
Nairobi, Kenya, November 4, 2025 — In a bold move to advance Africa’s digital transformation, IamtheCODE and the Equity Group Foundation (EGF) have signed a strategic partnership to equip 600,000 learners across Africa with essential digital, technical, and AI skills. The collaboration aims to empower vulnerable youth, women, and refugees with the tools needed to thrive in the global digital economy.
The initiative builds on Equity Group Foundation’s successful Wings to Fly and Equity Leadership Program, which have awarded over 60,000 scholarships and enabled 29,515 scholars to transition into public universities. The new partnership expands these efforts to include a Digital Academy, offering free access to over 65,000 online courses through IamtheCODE’s global platform—one of the most comprehensive in digital skills development.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dr. James Mwangi, Executive Chairman of Equity Group Foundation, said the partnership will help Africa’s youth gain “skills of the future” such as coding, data analytics, and AI literacy.
“Africa’s young people are digital natives. With coding skills, they can live in Africa but work for the world,” Dr. Mwangi noted. “This partnership is not just about training—it’s about creating opportunities for our youth to earn a livelihood and drive Africa’s economic transformation.”
IamtheCODE, founded by Lady Mariéme Jamme, operates in 89 countries and seeks to reskill one million women and girls globally by 2030. Lady Jamme emphasized the urgency of upskilling Africa’s youth amid fast-paced technological change.
“We are in emergency mode in Africa. We must ensure our people are skilled and ready to compete,” she said. “When people gain skills, they restore their dignity and achieve freedom. This partnership will help Africa’s young people, especially girls and refugees, to learn, innovate, and lead in the digital economy.”
Beyond technical training, the program integrates leadership, mentorship, and life skills to prepare learners for employment and entrepreneurship. Equity Group will provide loans for digital tools, internships, and startup support while connecting graduates to its 23 million customers to promote business digitization.
The initiative supports Kenya’s Vision 2030, the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4, 5, and 9), aligning with Equity’s Africa Recovery and Resilience Plan that drives private-sector-led growth across the continent.
Through this transformative partnership, IamtheCODE and Equity Group Foundation are not only building Africa’s next generation of tech leaders but also paving the way for inclusive, technology-driven economic growth.
