Africa’s Surging Digital Faith Drives Launch of New Regional Hub

NAIROBI, 24 February 2026 — YouVersion, the creator of one of the world’s most widely used Bible platforms, has established a new regional hub in Nairobi to support the rapid growth of digital Scripture engagement across Kenya and the wider continent.

The hub, officially opened on 23 February, builds on years of collaboration with African churches and ministries and is designed to strengthen local partnerships, expand culturally relevant content, and increase access to Scripture in diverse African languages.

Recent data shows the country has become a global leader in Bible engagement, recording about 19 million app installs and a 39 percent year-over-year rise in daily usage placing it among the top five countries worldwide for daily interaction. Analysts attribute the growth to a strong church network, a youthful population, and increasing smartphone adoption.

The regional office is staffed by leaders with deep roots in local faith communities, enabling what organisers describe as more authentic collaboration with churches, creators, and ministry leaders shaping how digital Scripture is shared.

“This Hub allows us to amplify African voices and ensure Scripture is experienced in ways that reflect our languages, cultures, and stories,” said Joseph Gachira, who leads the new centre. “We’re not importing a movement we’re strengthening what is already happening here.”

The Nairobi-based team will also help tailor technology to local realities such as high data costs and inconsistent connectivity in rural areas. Features like offline access and lighter app versions were refined using insights from African users and are now being applied globally to reach people facing similar constraints.

The platform currently offers Scripture in nearly 2,400 languages, including Kiswahili, Afrikaans, Xhosa, and Zulu, alongside children’s content designed to help younger audiences engage through interactive storytelling.

Founder and CEO Bobby Gruenewald said the expansion reflects the continent’s growing influence on global faith engagement trends.

“The momentum we’re seeing across Africa is remarkable,” he noted. “Local churches and leaders are driving this growth, and this hub ensures millions more can connect with Scripture in ways that truly resonate with their daily lives.”

The new centre positions the region not just as a user base, but as a key innovator shaping how digital faith tools are designed and experienced worldwide.
