Safaricom, Sprite Equip A.N.U Students with Digital Skills for Income Generation
Students at Africa Nazarene University ( A.N.U) have received hands-on training in digital literacy and content monetization through a youth-focused masterclass led by Safaricom in partnership with Sprite.
The training, held under the ‘Hook’d on Fresh’ series by Safaricom’s youth platform Safaricom Hook, focused on equipping students with practical skills to create, grow and monetize content across social media platforms. Participants were also introduced to strategies for building sustainable income streams in the fast-growing digital economy.
Industry players, including lifestyle content creator Carrie Wahu and dance creator Tileh Pacbro, shared real-world experiences on leveraging digital platforms for income generation. The session also featured Alexander Matheka from Safaricom’s wealth management division, who introduced the Ziidi Money Market Fund and encouraged students to adopt saving and investment habits for long-term financial stability.
Speaking during the session, Safaricom Chief Consumer Business Officer Fawzia Ali Kimanthi emphasized the growing role of content creation among young people, noting the need to support them in transforming their talents into viable livelihoods.
The engagement in Ongata Rongai follows a similar masterclass in Eldoret, where more than 300 students participated in digital skills training and gained access to industry insights and tools.
The ‘Hook’d on Fresh’ campaign is designed to empower Kenyan youth with skills, tools and inspiration to succeed in the digital content economy. By combining digital skills training with financial literacy, the initiative aims to position young people to better navigate and benefit from emerging opportunities in the evolving digital landscape.
