Public Urged to Verify Job Offers Amid Anti-Phishing Campaign

Kenyans have been urged to remain vigilant against job-related phishing scams as cybercriminals continue targeting job seekers with fake employment offers.

As part of an ongoing anti-phishing awareness campaign, the public is being warned about fraudulent messages claiming recipients have been shortlisted for government jobs. In one example, victims receive an SMS congratulating them on securing a County Government position before being asked to pay KSh 2,500 for “document verification” through a suspicious link.

Cybersecurity experts warn that genuine government agencies do not charge applicants any fees for recruitment, interviews, or document verification. They advise job seekers to verify vacancies through official government websites and avoid clicking links from unknown sources.

The campaign also encourages Kenyans to report suspicious messages to their mobile service providers and relevant authorities. Officials say increased public awareness is one of the most effective ways to combat phishing and protect citizens from financial loss and identity theft.

Think before you click. Verify before you pay.
