Kenya to host 2027 Magical Kenya Open as DP World Tour
Kenya will host the Magical Kenya Open from February 18 to 21 next year as part of the 2027 DP World Tour calendar, giving the country another platform to market its tourism and investment opportunities to a global audience.
The tournament will be staged at Karen Country Club and is among 42 events to be held across 24 countries under the Race to Dubai, according to the global schedule released on Wednesday.
Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) chairman Patrick Obath said the tournament was increasingly becoming a platform for promoting Kenya beyond sport, with the event expected to reach more than 600 million viewers globally.
“This opportunity reaffirms that the Magical Kenya Open can no longer be defined solely by scores and leaderboards, but by the value it brings at the intersection of sport, business, culture, tourism, sustainability, and positioning the country into a global community,” noted Obath.
The tournament is expected to support Kenya’s positioning as a sports tourism destination while providing exposure for local businesses and the hospitality industry.
The DP World Tour’s 2027 calendar will also feature the return of three historic national Opens in Asia and Europe.
The Deutsche Bank Singapore Open will be held at Sentosa Golf Club from April 15 to 18 and will be co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour under a new partnership involving the PGA Tour.
The Open de Portugal|Cascais-Lisboa will return to the calendar for the first time since 2020 and will be played at Oitavos Dunes Links Golf from May 13 to 16.
The Hong Kong Open, established in 1959, will return to the tour for the first time since 2019. It will be staged at Hong Kong Golf Club from October 21 to 24.
The schedule has also been adjusted to accommodate the 2027 Ryder Cup, which will be held at Adare Manor in Ireland from September 17 to 19.
The Amgen Irish Open will be played at The K Club from July 1 to 4, while the FedEx Open de France will be staged at Le Golf National from September 9 to 12.
The BMW PGA Championship will follow the Ryder Cup, taking place at Wentworth Club from September 23 to 26.
The Rolex Series will comprise the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Genesis Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship, before the season-ending Abu Dhabi Championship and DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings said the return of the historic national Opens in Singapore and Portugal would bring the number of prestigious national Opens on the 2027 schedule to 17.
“As Golf’s Global Tour, we are proud to provide this unique platform for our members to showcase their talents as they compete to put their own name alongside some of the iconic champions of our sport,” said Kinnings.
The 2027 season will begin with the Team Cup from January 15 to 17 before the tour moves into its regular tournament programme.
For Kenya, the continued inclusion of the Magical Kenya Open in the global calendar provides an avenue to link elite sport with tourism, hospitality, corporate investment and international destination marketing.
