Kenya to pick national motocross team at Nairobi MX1 Championship
Kenya’s top motocross riders will converge at the Jamhuri MX Track in Nairobi on Sunday for the Kenya National MX1 Motocross Championship, where they will battle not only for national honours but also places in the country’s team for the 2026 Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN).
The championship, organised by the Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya (MSFK) in partnership with Blade Doc Network and FIM Africa, will serve as the official selection event for Team Kenya ahead of the continental championship scheduled to take place in Namibia later this year.
The competition, which starts at 10:00 a.m., is expected to feature some of Kenya’s finest motocross riders as they compete for the chance to represent the country on the African stage.

Organisers said the championship marks a significant milestone for Kenyan motocross by providing a competitive platform for riders seeking national selection while strengthening the country’s presence in continental motorsport.
The event is expected to test riders across multiple classes, with selectors identifying athletes capable of competing against Africa’s best during the Motocross of African Nations.
According to the organisers, the championship also reflects ongoing efforts to nurture local talent and build a sustainable pathway for Kenyan riders to excel internationally.
Road safety at the heart of the event
Beyond the racing action, organisers have incorporated road safety awareness and community engagement programmes in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
“This championship weekend brings a full programme of community and road safety initiatives, delivered in collaboration with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), reinforcing motorsport’s role as a platform for youth engagement, safety education and sustainable mobility in Kenya,” the organisers said.
One of the major highlights will be the RSA Boda Safety Challenge, where boda boda riders will demonstrate practical road safety skills while competing for cash prizes, merchandise and gift hampers. Participation will be limited to the first 30 registered riders with roadworthy motorcycles, helmets and closed shoes.
Family entertainment and green mobility
The championship will also feature family-friendly activities, including food experiences, lifestyle exhibitions and quad bike rides.
Visitors will also have an opportunity to experience electric motorcycle technology at the free Kibo Spark Entry Zone under the theme “Ride Safe, Ride Smart, Ride Electric,” powered by Powerhive.
The event has attracted support from NTSA, Coca-Cola, RFH Healthcare, Kibo, Powerhive, the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), AA Kenya and Rising Stars Africa as stakeholders seek to grow Kenyan motorsport while promoting rider safety and sustainable mobility.
