Mpesa foundation partners with government to boost school infrastructure in Elgeyo-Marakwet

Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesmus Murkomen has reaffirmed the importance of private sector partnerships in accelerating Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.

Speaking during the commissioning of new school facilities in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Murkomen said collaboration between government and corporate foundations is critical in ensuring equitable development across the country.

“Private sector is an integral partner in our socio-economic transformation journey, ensuring that no part of our country is left behind,” he said.

The CS commended the M-Pesa Foundation for supporting the government’s efforts to enhance learning infrastructure.

“We commend M-Pesa Foundation for the good work they are doing, supporting us to provide modern learning facilities to our children,” he added.

Murkomen was joined by a delegation from M-Pesa Africa led by CEO Sitoyo Lopokoiyit at St. Michael Embobut Secondary School, where they commissioned newly constructed dormitories sponsored by the Foundation.

The team later opened classrooms and a modern kitchen at St. Gabriel Chorwa Mixed Day Comprehensive School, facilities expected to significantly improve the teaching and learning environment.

Murkomen further directed National Government Administration Officers to strictly enforce government policy in support of the Ministry of Education’s target of achieving 100 percent transition to Senior School.

Among those present were Karen Basiye, Director for Sustainable Business and Social Impact at Safaricom Foundation, former Marakwet East MP Jebii Kilimo, former Inspector General David Kimaiyo and technology lawyer Stephen Kiptiness, among other leaders.
