World Vision Kenya Calls for Action, Solidarity on World Refugee Day 2025
World Vision Kenya has joined the global community in commemorating World Refugee Day 2025, reaffirming its commitment to honouring refugee stories, protecting their rights, and strengthening humanitarian support.
Under this year’s theme, “Solidarity with Refugees: Honouring Refugee Stories, Upholding Their Rights,” World Vision highlighted the worsening global displacement crisis. Over 120 million people are currently forcibly displaced worldwide, including 36 million refugees. In Kenya alone, more than 843,000 refugees and asylum seekers primarily from South Sudan, Somalia, and the DRC reside in settlements like Kakuma and Kalobeyei, where food rations have dropped to 40% of minimum daily needs.
World Vision Kenya, through its DREAM-UP Project supported by KOICA and in partnership with World Vision Korea, is actively working to transform the lives of refugees and host communities. Interventions include training in climate-smart agriculture, cash transfers, peacebuilding, and market linkages initiatives aligned with Kenya’s Shirika Plan for refugee inclusion.
The impact has been substantial including,Over 44,000 refugees have received livelihood support and psychosocial services, 161 farmers have adopted climate-resilient farming techniques, boosting food production and income,160,000 people in Kakuma and Kalobeyei benefited from food distributions,11,305 reached through peace and livelihood programs and 1,500 households gained access to clean water and sanitation through UNICEF’s Prospect 2.0 Project.

“Refugees have the right to safety, dignity, and opportunity,” said Gilbert Kamanga, National Director of World Vision Kenya. “Solidarity must be seen in action through policies that protect, investments that empower, and communities that welcome.”
World Vision is urging government agencies, partners, and donors to scale up sustainable, rights-based refugee responses that prioritise inclusion, food security, and peacebuilding amid ongoing global crises.
