University of Nairobi Council Faces Calls for Dissolution Amid Governance Crisis – UASU

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has called for the immediate dissolution of the University of Nairobi Council, citing a deepening governance crisis.

In a strongly worded statement, UASU accused the council of mismanagement, poor leadership, and failing to uphold the university’s best interests.

The union expressed concerns over decisions that have allegedly undermined the institution’s stability, affecting both academic and administrative functions.

“We can no longer sit back and watch as governance failures threaten the future of one of Kenya’s premier institutions. The council must be dissolved to restore order and accountability,” UASU officials said.

The crisis comes amid growing tensions within the university, with stakeholders raising alarm over financial challenges, policy decisions, and staff welfare issues.

UASU has urged the Ministry of Education and the government to intervene and ensure the university’s leadership is restructured to safeguard its academic integrity.
