Tatu City Launches After-School AI Program to Nurture Kenya’s Next Generation of Digital Innovators
Tatu City has officially launched its After-School Artificial Intelligence (AI) Program under Tatu Reach, the city’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiative, marking a major step in promoting digital literacy among young learners. The launch coincided with the graduation of the first cohort of students who successfully completed a 13-week pilot course in front-end web development and artificial intelligence.
The program, targeting learners aged 14 to 15 years, aims to equip students with essential digital and coding skills to prepare them for the evolving technological landscape.
The curriculum introduces participants to core programming concepts such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, alongside real-world applications through capstone projects.
Twenty students from Tatu Primary School, a public institution within Tatu City, were selected for the inaugural class. Over the three-month course, they engaged in hands-on training that emphasized creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking key competencies for future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Speaking during the launch, Solomon Mahinda, Executive Vice President at Tatu City, emphasized the importance of digital readiness for Kenya’s youth.

“At Tatu City, we are preparing our community for the jobs of the future. Our After-School AI Program equips young learners with digital skills that will enable them to participate in tomorrow’s economy,” he said. Mahinda also highlighted Tatu City’s growing reputation as East Africa’s data centre hub, with major companies establishing large-scale facilities expected to create hundreds of skilled jobs.
The event was graced by officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MoICDE), who commended the initiative for aligning with the government’s agenda to promote digital inclusion, innovation, and technology-driven development. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to fostering partnerships that empower young people to thrive in Kenya’s rapidly digitalizing economy.
Through the After-School AI Program, Tatu City aims to expand access to technology education, inspiring the next generation of innovators and ensuring that local communities benefit directly from the city’s growing technological ecosystem.
