Nairobi Hospital Reassures Patients Amid Insurance Cover Dispute
The Nairobi Hospital (TNH) has moved to reassure patients that its services remain fully accessible, following concerns raised after some medical insurers temporarily suspended coverage at the facility.
The hospital, a 71-year-old premier specialist institution and the largest stand-alone private hospital in Eastern, Southern and Central Africa, clarified that it remains committed to delivering quality healthcare despite recent tensions with some insurers.
The concerns arose after advisories issued by a section of insurance providers on August 8, 2025, informing clients of suspended services at TNH. The move was triggered by the hospital’s marginal upward review of certain medical product and service prices, averaging a 5% increase. Management explained that the adjustment was informed by rising costs of pharmaceuticals, imported equipment, and other essential medical supplies, benchmarked against peer institutions.
“Even with the review, our tariffs remained competitive within the market,” the hospital said in a statement, noting that the price changes were necessary to sustain operations amid tough economic circumstances.
However, following consultations with insurance partners, The Nairobi Hospital rescinded the adjustments on August 11, 2025, to allow further dialogue. Patients will therefore continue accessing care at the previous rates, ensuring that no disruption occurs in service delivery.

“The Nairobi Hospital wishes to reassure all its patients that the rates remain as were prior to adjustments. We are ready to work with our insurance partners to ensure flawless service to our patients,” the hospital’s Senior Management Team said.
While acknowledging the temporary disruption caused by the insurers’ advisories, the hospital emphasized that patients covered by medical insurance would continue receiving care, subject to approval by their respective providers. It encouraged patients to seek direct clarification from insurers regarding any challenges with coverage.
The management further underlined that the hospital’s priority remains patient welfare and that it is committed to constructive engagement with insurance companies to safeguard access to timely, affordable, and quality healthcare.
As negotiations continue, The Nairobi Hospital has reassured the public that its doors remain open to all patients and that its standards of excellence in healthcare remain uncompromised
