Murkomen rallies support for APS Bomet as relegation battle tightens

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has reaffirmed government support for disciplined services teams, saying sports play a key role in nurturing talent, promoting health and strengthening community ties.

Murkomen, who also serves as patron of APS Bomet FC, spoke in Kericho after watching the side secure a 1-0 victory against KCB FC in a FKF Premier League match at Kiprugut Chumo Stadium.

He was accompanied by Kericho Governor Dr Erick Mutai and Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli.

The CS said the growth of teams within the disciplined services reflects a long-standing tradition of excellence across various sporting disciplines.

“Sports in the disciplined services promotes talent development, health and wellbeing, and community relations. The exploits of officers across all sports disciplines are longstanding and storied,” he said.

Murkomen praised APS Bomet FC for their improving performance, noting that the team has built confidence in recent matches, highlighted by a four-game winning streak.

“I am proud to see this team’s growth and confidence in the top flight. Today, the boys honoured our presence with a 1-0 win,” he added.

The victory boosted APS Bomet’s chances of survival in the top tier as the league enters its final stretch.

Murkomen assured the team of continued support, saying efforts will be made to ensure they finish the season strongly and avoid relegation.

“As the season enters the home stretch, I will give the team all the support they need to finish strong and avoid relegation,” he said.

Other leaders present included APS Director of Sports and Chaplaincy Ramadhan Omar, Kericho County Commissioner William Gichure, APS Bomet FC Board Chairman Bishop Dr Fred Akama and several Members of County Assembly.
