JUSTICE ON WHEELS: AG Oduor & Bangbet Unveils Mobile Centers to End Kenya’s Rural Justice Gap

NAIROBI, KENYA —  Attorney General Dorcas  Oduor has partnered with corporate sponsor Bangbet to officially launch the Mobile Legal Aid Center Initiative ,a move set to revolutionize legal access across Kenya.

This innovative program transforms customized, solar-powered containers into fully equipped legal offices, bringing essential justice services directly to the nation’s most remote and vulnerable communities.

Bridging the Divide: From Nairobi Bureaucracy to Rural Accessibility

Kenya’s first female Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, has consistently campaigned for a justice system defined by empathy and accessibility. Her vision for the mobile centers is rooted in the belief that geography and poverty should never deny a citizen their constitutional right to justice.

“Justice does not have to be distant, and care can travel,” the AG stated, emphasizing the initiative’s human-centered philosophy. The project is designed to address the agonizing realities faced by countless Kenyans from rural mothers locked in land disputes to elders struggling to find legal guidance who often cannot afford the time or cost of traveling to distant urban courts.

The Units: Technology Meets Compassion

The Mobile Legal Aid Centers are state-of-the-art units engineered for service and dignity in the field. Each center is equipped to function as a fully independent legal hub, featuring:

  • Soundproof Consultation Booths: Ensuring privacy for sensitive legal discussions.
  • Virtual Court Hearing Facilities: Allowing remote access to court proceedings, saving citizens lengthy travel times.
  • Solar-Powered Energy Systems: Guaranteeing sustainable operation in off-grid locations.
  • Wheelchair-Accessible Infrastructure: Upholding the AG’s commitment to dignity for persons with disabilities.

Bangbet’s Unprecedented Corporate Commitment

The private sector’s role is anchored by Bangbet, whose support goes far beyond a simple donation. The company has funded the acquisition, modification, and furnishing of the mobile containers, including all electrical works, solar power integration, and crucial ICT equipment for the virtual courts.

A Bangbet spokesperson affirmed, “This is not a branding exercise. It is a commitment to making justice accessible… A stronger society begins with empowered citizens.”

This public-private partnership is being hailed by observers as a potential gold standard for addressing long-standing social challenges.

Next Steps: Launching in Machakos, Scaling to 47 Counties

The initiative is set to debut immediately with a pilot program in Machakos County. Following this initial phase, the model will be refined and rapidly scaled across all 47 counties nationwide, supported by a dedicated network of State Counsel, pro bono advocates, and paralegal officers. The goal is to ensure that a simple container, now transformed into a vessel of hope, delivers on the promise of justice with a human face everywhere in Kenya.
