Huawei Unveils White Paper to Accelerate Kenya’s Energy Digital Transformation

Nairobi, Kenya, November 5, 2025 — Global technology giant Huawei has launched the Digitalization White Paper for the Energy Industry at the Huawei Kenya Energy Summit 2025 in Nairobi, outlining a strategic roadmap for modernizing Kenya’s power sector through smart technologies and sustainable innovation.

The white paper provides a comprehensive framework for integrating digital tools to strengthen grid resilience, improve efficiency, and fast-track the country’s shift toward clean energy solutions. It identifies four key pillars of transformation  creation of digital green power plants using end-to-end digital twins; intelligent grid inspection powered by automation and smart monitoring tools; self-healing distribution networks for autonomous fault detection and recovery; and coordinated use of diverse energy sources to enhance sustainability and reliability.

Speaking during the summit’s official opening, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary  Opiyo Wandayi, commended Huawei for championing Kenya’s digital energy transition. “Huawei Kenya Energy Summit 2025 marks a major step in driving Kenya’s energy digitalization journey,” he said. “We applaud Huawei’s role in driving digital energy transformation through smart grids and renewable energy integration. Kenya remains dedicated to achieving universal access to clean, reliable, and modern energy by 2030, powered by innovation and sustainable technology.”

CS Wandayi noted that technological innovation, evolving global energy systems, and climate change have created an urgent need for countries to decarbonize and digitize their economies.

He emphasized Kenya’s commitment to leveraging clean energy technologies and partnerships with global leaders like Huawei to power economic growth while safeguarding the environment.

The summit brought together key players from Kenya’s power and energy sectors, including representatives from Kenya Power, regulators, and technology partners, to discuss the role of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and smart grids in enhancing operational efficiency and supporting renewable energy integration.

Benjamin Muoki, Manager of Telecommunications and Service Delivery at Kenya Power, highlighted the company’s ongoing digital transformation, including investments in a 100G national fiber backbone, SCADA automation, and cloud-based systems.

“Our goal is to enhance operational efficiency, improve customer experience, and strengthen grid reliability through digital innovation,” he said.

Huawei Kenya Enterprise Managing Director Samuel Cheng reaffirmed the company’s commitment to accelerating Africa’s transition to intelligent, sustainable energy. “Digitalization and innovation are redefining the energy landscape, with Kenya standing at the forefront of this transformation,” Cheng remarked. “Together with ecosystem partners, Huawei is shaping a smarter, more sustainable energy ecosystem for generations to come.”

The Digitalization White Paper reinforces Huawei’s role as a key partner in Kenya’s energy evolution, offering actionable insights for stakeholders to modernize infrastructure, optimize energy use, and support the country’s goal of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7  universal access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy by 2030.
