HCG Cancer Center Unveils PET-CT Scan in Nairobi to Revolutionize Cancer Detection and Treatment
In a groundbreaking advancement for Kenya’s healthcare sector, HealthCare Global (HCG) Cancer Centre has launched the region’s first PET-CT Scan equipped with Gallium-68 radiotracer technology.
The unveiling, which took place on April 25, 2025, is set to revolutionize cancer detection, treatment planning, and patient outcomes in the country.
Speaking at the launch, HCG Executive Director Dr. B.S. Ajai Kumar emphasized the importance of local access to precision oncology.
“The turmoil patients face when traveling abroad for treatment must end,” Dr. Kumar said. “We are committed to providing world-class cancer care right here, at home.”
The advanced PET-CT Scan offers an unprecedented level of sensitivity and specificity, accurately detecting prostate cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, FAPI-positive cancers, and more. Its introduction will significantly reduce the need for Kenyans to seek expensive treatment overseas.

Bhupendra Kumar Bharti, HCG’s Chief Operating Officer, announced that the cost of scans would be largely covered by insurance and the Social Health Authority (SHA). Patients will pay a minimal out-of-pocket contribution.
“Previously, only South Africa offered Gallium-68 PET-CT services in Africa,” Bharti said. “Today, Kenyans have access to this right here in Nairobi.”
Sister Anne Gadego a breast cancer survivor highlights the importance of early detection , she shared her journey of hope after being diagnosed through a routine checkup.
“Cancer is not a death sentence,” she urged. “Early detection saved my life and it can save yours too.”
As HCG continues to invest in advanced radiotherapy, surgical oncology, and diagnostics, Kenya moves closer to achieving self-sufficiency in world-class cancer care.
