Kenyans to Get Good Conduct Certificates in 24 Hours – CS Murkomen

The waiting period for police clearance certificates is now over. Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced that Kenyans will be getting their Certificate of Good Conduct within a day.

Speaking at the DCI Headquarters on Kiambu Road, Murkomen said the processing timeline has been slashed from two weeks to 24 hours, a move he said will transform service delivery.

“The turnaround time for processing police clearance certificates, which previously took up to 14 days or more, will now be reduced to just 24 hours,” Murkomen said.

The CS made the announcement during the official handover of the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) Certificate to the DCI’s Forensic Evidence Management Unit (FEMU) and the launch of the upgraded ABIS version of the Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS).

He said the reforms are part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s plan to modernize security institutions and make public services faster and more efficient.

“This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to modernising our security agencies, institutional reforms and improved service delivery,” he noted.

The ANAB accreditation means Kenya’s handling and preservation of forensic evidence now meets global standards. This elevates Kenya’s status as a regional hub for forensic science and strengthens the integrity of evidence presented in courts.

Murkomen explained that the new biometric system will massively expand the DCI’s capacity. Records storage will jump from 2 million to 10 million files, while the number of fingerprint searches that can be done daily will increase from 4,500 to 20,000.

To ease access, the upgraded system will be deployed across all 52 Huduma Centres countrywide, eliminating the need for applicants to travel to Nairobi.

The system will also be linked with key institutions including the National Registration Bureau, the Judiciary, the Directorate of Immigration Services and INTERPOL, allowing for instant identity checks, faster intelligence sharing and improved cross-border crime management.

The 24-hour issuance is expected to be a major relief for job seekers, students and travelers who require the document for employment, studies and visa processing.
