FIDA Kenya to Partner with Amref,LSK to Support Mental Health, Justice for Victims of Gen Z Protests
The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kenya has announced plans to partner with Amref Health Africa ,Law Society of Kenya ( LSK) and other stakeholders to offer psychosocial and legal support to victims affected by the recent Gen Z-led protests, particularly following the deadly events of Saba Saba.
Speaking during a press briefing, FIDA Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu said the organization is deeply concerned about the emotional and psychological toll on families, especially those who lost loved ones during the demonstrations.
“We have seen heartbreaking scenes, including mothers riding with their deceased children in their cars. That is a trauma that can never be fully compensated,” she said.
In response, FIDA will collaborate with mental health professionals to address the widespread trauma and anguish among survivors, bereaved families, and communities. The partnership with Amref and others will focus on psychological care, mental health outreach, and community healing initiatives.
Beyond health, FIDA emphasized its legal commitment to pursuing justice and accountability through national and international frameworks. “This is not just about loss of lives it is also about loss of livelihoods, business disruptions, and the broader psychological damage suffered by many Kenyans. Justice takes many folds, and we intend to pursue all avenues, including compensation,” Kungu noted.
FIDA also pointed out the criminal elements that contributed to the violence and pledged to work towards holding responsible parties accountable. The organization will be seeking various forms of redress in line with Kenya’s constitutional provisions.
The planned initiative aims to not only bring healing but also restore faith in justice systems for those affected by the crisis.
