Democratic National Alliance Officially Launched in Nairobi After Umoja Summit Party Rebrand
In a historic move, the Umoja Summit Party of Kenya (USPK) has officially rebranded and relaunched as the Democratic National Alliance (DNA), marking a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape.
Speaking during the party’s National Delegates’ Convention (NDC) held in Nairobi, DNA Secretary General Dr. Barrack Muluka announced the resolution, stating, “With effect from today, the third day of April 2025, Umoja Summit Party of Kenya shall henceforth be known as the Democratic National Alliance.”
The rebranding came with a series of structural and organizational reforms aimed at revitalizing the party. Among the key resolutions were:
Renewal and Relaunch: All party organs, instruments, and officials under USPK automatically transitioned into the DNA framework, maintaining their current roles.
Adoption of a New Constitution: The former USPK constitution was renamed and revised to reflect DNA’s new direction, with expanded leadership positions to enhance inclusivity, gender balance, and youth representation.
Confirmation of National Officials: Former interim officials were confirmed to serve a full five-year term. Leading the new party is Hon. Godfrey Kanoti as Party Leader, with Benjamin Tregasso and Mweshimiwa Matano-Chamberlain as Deputy Leaders. Others confirmed include National Chairperson Walter Mung’are “Nyambane”, Deputy Chair Rachel Mwakazi, and National Treasurer Theophas Oyago, among many others.
Symbol and Identity: The party retained the maroon, black, and gold colors of USPK, adding a tinge of white. Its new symbol is an African water bottle adorned with a mosaic of party colors, encircled by a stone ring. The party’s motto was unveiled as “Your Voice, Your Power.”
Expanded Leadership Structure: The National Executive Committee (NEC) was expanded to include additional secretaries covering portfolios such as Women Affairs, Youth, Education, Agriculture, Innovation, Public Policy, Security, and many more to reflect a national outlook.
Relocation of Party Headquarters: DNA will relocate its headquarters from Busia to Nairobi to better facilitate national operations and coordination with other like-minded political entities.
Membership Transition: All existing USPK members will automatically become members of DNA. Membership will now be available to individuals and corporate entities, with regulations set to follow.
Strategic Political Alliances: The NDC granted DNA the authority to collaborate with other progressive political formations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Creation of a Board of Trustees: A new oversight body was established to safeguard the party’s integrity and ensure accountability in its leadership.
The gathering marked the dawn of a fresh political journey for the newly rebranded party, positioning itself as a people-driven movement ahead of the next general election.
“The Lord has made this day, and we shall rejoice in it,” declared Hon. Kanoya as he officially launched the DNA, promising a renewed vision grounded in inclusivity, accountability, and empowerment.
