Leaders allied to the broad-based government on Tuesday held a high-level consultative meeting in Nairobi, bringing together Members of Parliament from ODM and UDA in a show of political unity and support for President William Ruto’s development agenda.

The meeting, led by Senator Tabitha Mutinda, attracted more than 2,000 women from across Nairobi County, drawn from business, informal settlements, and community groups.

Speaking at the forum, Sen. Mutinda said the broad-based government remains committed to women’s empowerment, economic inclusion, and increased participation of women in governance and leadership.

“These women have embraced the broad-based government because it prioritises empowerment, economic opportunities, and inclusion in decision-making,” she said.

She highlighted key government programmes benefiting women and youth, including Social Health Authority (SHA) reforms, the Affordable Housing Programme, support for women-led small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the NYOTA programme, which provides start-up capital to young entrepreneurs.

The meeting was attended by MPs affiliated with the broad-based government, among them TJ Kajwang’, John Kiarie (KJ), George Aladwa, Hamida Kibwana, Beatrice Elachi, Esther Passaris, and other legislators and leaders.

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o urged leaders to remain grounded in the needs of ordinary citizens, particularly women who sustain Nairobi’s economy through small businesses and informal work.

“These women left their businesses to be here. They are the real leaders of Nairobi. Their voices must be taken to the decision-making table,” Jalang’o said, calling for sustained civic engagement and voter participation.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris used her remarks to defend the government’s development record, particularly the Affordable Housing Programme, saying it has expanded home ownership opportunities and created jobs in informal settlements such as Kibra.

She also called for political unity and dialogue, noting that the broad-based arrangement was essential for stability, peace, and economic growth.

“This is not about positions or power. It is about the people of Kenya, peace, and development,” Passaris said, adding that President Ruto’s leadership had brought stability and bold reforms in housing, infrastructure, and social protection.

Leaders at the meeting reiterated their support for President Ruto, urging Kenyans to rally behind the broad-based government to advance national unity, economic growth, and inclusive development.
