Anti-Phishing Campaign Warns Public Against Fake WhatsApp Recruitment Scams

Members of the public have been urged to remain alert as an anti-phishing campaign raises awareness about fraudulent recruitment messages circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

The campaign highlights a growing scam in which fraudsters contact job seekers, claiming they found their CV online and are offering immediate employment opportunities. Victims are then instructed to send a photo of their national ID and pay KSh 750 to reserve an interview slot. Cybersecurity experts warn that these messages are phishing attempts designed to steal money and personal information.

According to the campaign, genuine employers do not require applicants to pay interview reservation fees or submit sensitive documents through unofficial messaging platforms. Job seekers are encouraged to verify recruitment opportunities through official company websites and trusted communication channels before sharing personal information.

The awareness drive also advises the public to avoid making payments to secure employment, protect personal identification documents, and report suspicious messages to the relevant authorities or service providers.
