Aga Khan University Hospital Clinches Top Honours at East Africa Supply Chain & Logistics Summit

Nairobi, Kenya, September 4, 2025 – Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has emerged a standout winner at the 3rd Annual Supply Chain & Logistics Summit and Awards, East Africa, with two of its senior leaders recognized for their outstanding contributions to healthcare operations.

AKUH’s Regional Director of Purchases and Supply Chain Management, Amin Dharsi, was named Supply Chain Leader of the Year, while Joseph Kabiru, the Division’s Operations Manager, was awarded Logistics Professional of the Year.

The awards, considered among the most competitive in the sector, celebrate excellence across industries, spotlighting individuals who have demonstrated innovation, efficiency, and resilience in ensuring effective supply chain and logistics systems.

Speaking after the recognition, Mr. Dharsi emphasized the link between supply chain excellence and patient care.

Each year, AKUH serves an estimated 700,000 patients across East Africa. Its supply chain operations ensure timely access to essential medical products and consumables, which are vital to delivering consistent, high-quality healthcare. These systems have also played a critical role in addressing sector-wide challenges, including the demand for resilient healthcare delivery during crises.

The 2025 Summit convened policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the region to explore strategies for strengthening supply chains and logistics. Discussions focused on how technology can drive efficiency, enhance cross-border trade, attract investment, and unlock economic opportunities.

By clinching two top awards, AKUH has reinforced its position not only as a centre of medical excellence but also as a benchmark for best practices in healthcare supply chain management. The recognition underscores the growing importance of resilient supply systems in advancing universal health coverage and building sustainable healthcare models in Africa.
