Africa Business Heroes Finalist Brings BOMPA Digital Platform to Kenya

Nigerian technology entrepreneur Kelvin Umechukwu is seeking to expand the footprint of BOMPA in Kenya, targeting businesses with a digital platform designed to bring multiple business management functions under one system.

Umechukwu, the co-founder and CEO of BOMPA, is in Nairobi for the Africa Business Heroes semi-finals after emerging among the Top 20 entrepreneurs selected from more than 24,000 applications.

He said the company’s entry into Kenya is still at an early stage but that initial businesses are already coming on board.

“We have three people now in the team, and they’re just talking to people about it in Kenya,” Umechukwu said.

BOMPA allows business owners to manage functions including inventory, orders and customer relationships while integrating payment and shipping tools.

Umechukwu said the objective is to give entrepreneurs greater visibility of their businesses and help them make informed decisions.

“We want to ensure that business owners can use their data, they can track, they can reduce the losses, they can save time, and they can grow their business even a lot faster than they typically do without BOMPA,” he said.

The company says it already supports more than 100,000 businesses, although Umechukwu acknowledged that its Kenyan operations remain in the early stages.

The entrepreneur said he plans to meet some of the Kenyan businesses using the platform to understand their experiences and identify areas where BOMPA can improve its support.

The expansion comes as the company marks five years since its launch.

Umechukwu said the next phase of the business will increasingly involve artificial intelligence, with the technology being developed to automate some routine tasks for entrepreneurs.

He cited customer follow-up and email marketing as examples of functions BOMPA is seeking to make easier.

“You’re just chilling, and you just see your sales coming up. Those are things that we’re building now for business owners,” he said.

Umechukwu said the platform has a free trial before users begin paying for the service, which he described as affordable.

His appearance in Kenya comes as he prepares to pitch BOMPA before judges in the Africa Business Heroes competition.

He said reaching the semi-finals was both a privilege and recognition of the work done by his team and supporters.

“The journey has definitely not been easy, but I’ve had a lot of support with my team, my friends, supporters, investors, customers,” he said.
