NCBA Bank has officially launched its 99th branch in Kawangware, reinforcing its commitment to expand financial access and support the growth of retail and SME customers in one of Nairobi’s most dynamic urban centers.

The branch, operational since December 2024, has already made a strong mark serving over 130 customers daily, registering 1,106 new accounts and 402 merchant tills, and amassing a balance sheet worth KES 235.7 million. It currently manages liabilities of KES 163.3 million and a growing loan book of KES 72.4 million, supporting sectors such as transport, retail, food and hospitality, real estate, education, and faith-based institutions.

Speaking at the official opening, NCBA Acting Group Director for Retail Banking, Dennis Njau, said, “Kawangware reflects the heartbeat of Kenya’s entrepreneurial spirit. This branch is a vital step toward our strategy of being the primary bank for SMEs and retail customers. Our digital-first approach, combined with tools like NCBA tills, mobile loans, and asset finance, is making banking accessible and impactful.”

Hon. Beatrice Elachi, MP for Dagoretti North, lauded the initiative, noting, “By bringing services closer to the people, we’re not just opening a branch we’re unlocking opportunities for thousands of entrepreneurs to thrive.”

In addition to banking, NCBA’s sustainability agenda also took root in Kawangware. In collaboration with the Missionary Sisters of Precious Blood, the bank planted 110 trees and distributed sustainable school bags and food supplies to Amani Primary School.

As NCBA prepares to launch its 100th branch, the Kawangware model stands as a testament to how customer-centric solutions, digital innovation, and community partnerships can drive inclusive economic growth.
